The Complete Home Tanning Kit will give you the tools and knowledge necessary to finish a hide with a beautiful hair-on or leather tan. Even if its the first hide you have ever tanned.
Eight years in the making, The Complete Home Tanning Kit was developed by a professional tanner with almost 30 years of experience. The kit utilizes a simple salt-alum tan which is very common but can leave you with a hard and crusty hide when improperly finished. This unfortunate state is prevented by using our specially formulated oil. It is a water soluble oil that will make the hide soft and supple without leaving the hide greasy or oily feeling.
The kit is designed so that the process can be completed on one sheet of plywood. It usually takes about a week to complete the process but very little of that time is labor. (Some steps take 24-48 hours of set time to finish. If you live in a very humid area, it may take longer.) There is very little mess and there are no harsh chemicals or odors to worry about. The book contains formulas for tanning Deer, Elk, Moose*, Antelope, Cow Calves, Goats, Sheep, Coyotes, Foxes, and Raccoons.
The Complete Kit includes: A How-To Video, a Step-By-Step book, 1 Double Pack of Tanning Crystals, 2 bottles of Tanning Oil, Hide Scraper, Sand Paper, Needle & Thread, Dust Mask, Plastic Apron, 4' x 8' Plastic Sheet, Leather Dye, and Latex gloves.
