Road-kill Mink in Maryland
« on: March 05, 2009, 08:24:29 PM »

Found a mink freshly killed on the road in my neighborhood last weekend, very unusual. Has been bitter cold until today, so the mink went from a solid block to only somewhat stiff. Decided to try and tan the hide, so I skinned it tonight.
My two questions are will The Tannery's Home Tanning Kit work on a mink, and if so, how best to preserve the green hide until the Kit comes in the mail?
Thanks for the help!

The kit will work on a mink.

If you skinned it out so it is still a tube, turn it inside out so the hair is on the inside.

Now hang it and let it air dry.

Same thing if you slit the belly.  Just hang it and let it air dry till the kit arrives.

Some mink need to be washed a couple times right before the tanning process begins to remove all the musk odor.
